Welcome to Pearl Place Women’s Care

Our goal is to provide excellence in women’s health care throughout the lifespan-- from adolescence through childbirth and into menopause. Our dedicated staff and practitioners work together to make sure you and your family are comfortable with the care you receive. Please explore our website to find out more about our services, get to know our practitioners, and learn more about the women’s health issues that interest you.

Our History

Pearl Place Women’s Care grew out of Dr. Elizabeth Sanford’s original practice, Obstetrics and Gynecology Associates, which she purchased in 1986. Many of our long-time patients remember the office when it was simply Dr. Sanford, physician associate Kim Horvath, their nurse Marge Warner, and office manager Linda Morin. Over the years, other practitioners have joined the team, and the office moved to larger quarters in the Pearl Place building. Here, Dr. Sanford and the Pearl Place Midwives are able to provide the best in health care for women.

Our Philosophy

We’re all women here at Pearl Place, so we understand how very important it is that your personal health care be delivered with sensitivity and compassion. Your comfort is our goal, whether you are seeing us for concerns related to menopause, pregnancy, or adolescence. Each of us, practitioners and staff alike, wants you to know that we are partners in your health care. We will acquaint you with your options and help you make the best possible decisions for your particular situation.

Help for Women with Heavy Periods

Dr. Sanford responds to a common question about in-office treatment for heavy bleeding:

Q: I have trouble with heavy periods. It is affecting my life. I don ’t think it ’s bad enough to have a hysterectomy, but I need relief. Is there anything I can do?

A: Luckily there is a hysterectomy alternative which we've been using in our office for the last four years. It's called endometrial ablation, and is a minimally invasive way to stop abnormal bleeding and heavy periods.  Endometrial ablation techniques have been found safe and effective by the FDA for reducing or eliminating heavy bleeding. The procedure is comfortable enough to be done in our office and takes between 3 and 30 minutes, depending on the method recommended for your own situation. The next day you are back to your everyday life--without the hassles of heavy bleeding. Endometrial ablation procedures are covered by insurance.
